On May 22-23, 2023, within the framework of parliamentary cooperation between Georgia and Turkmenistan, a delegation of the Georgia-Turkmenistan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group headed by Davit Matikashvili visited the capital of Turkmenistan. The delegation included members of the friendship group: Beka Davituliani, Gogi Meshveliani, Irakli Zarkua, Giorgi Tsagareishvili.
Within the framework of the visit, on May 22, a meeting of the parliamentary delegation was held with the Chairman of the new convocation of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, Dunyagozel Gulmanova.
At the meeting, the parties noted with satisfaction the existing friendly relations between Georgia and Turkmenistan, discussed the prospects of deepening cooperation.
Special attention was paid to the activation of cooperation between the relevant committees of legislative bodies and inter-parliamentary friendship groups, as well as the importance of exchange visits in terms of parliamentary diplomacy.
Active cooperation of the parties in transport-transit, trade-economic, humanitarian-cultural, educational and other important fields was emphasized.
On the same day, a working meeting of inter-parliamentary friendship groups of Georgia and Turkmenistan was held in Mejlis of Turkmenistan. The meeting was led by Davit Matikashvili from the Georgian side, Anamukhamet Sarjaev from the Turkmen side.
It should be noted that this was the first bilateral working meeting between the friendship groups of Turkmenistan and foreign countries in the Mejlis of the New Convocation.
The parties discussed the priority issues between the countries, discussed the possibilities of increasing the role of parliamentary diplomacy in this direction.
They agreed that taking into account the traditionally friendly relations between Georgia and Turkmenistan, they will actively continue parliamentary cooperation.
